Vanguard hosts Legislators for Early Learning Briefing

Vanguard Chairman Emeritus and PA Early Learning Investment Commissioner, Jack Brennan welcomed members of the PA Early Childhood legislative Caucus to a briefing at the Vanguard Group headquarters earlier this month. This event was hosted by Early Childhood Caucus Co-Chair Senator Pat Browne and Representative Mark Longietti.

Attendees heard from Carra Cote-Ackah about the Vanguard’s ‘Capital for Kids’ program, Representative Leanne Krueger-Braneky about the importance of state investments, and Penn State professor, Dr. Jennifer Zosh, Ph.D. detailing the latest brain science research supporting early learning investments.

Sheetz VP, Doliveira Urges Business Focus on Future Workforce

Stephanie Doliveira, Vice President of Human Resources for Sheetz Corporation and Early Learning Investment Commissioner addressed about 100 key stakeholders and business leaders from the Susquehanna Valley at the Champions of Early Childhood Education 2018 Summit last week in Lewisburg.

The event, hosted by the Greater Susquehanna Valley United Way, the regional Early Learning Investment Committee of the Susquehanna River Region, The Daily Item and others also included a presentation by Dr. Dana Winters, from the Fred Rogers Center, who discussed the essential need for meaningful interactions with caring adults for managing childhood stress and trauma.  A video that will be shown to all new moms in the Evangelical Hospital system (and others) was premiered. The video shows new moms simple things they can do to stimulate their child’s development.

Meet Our New Associate Director: Sara Lauver

We are excited to share that Sara Lauver has joined our team in the position of Associate Director. Sara comes to us from the Greater Susquehanna Valley United Way where she served as Director of Community Impact and Marketing. Sara had a broad portfolio during her tenure at United Way, including work to plan and oversee funds distribution and allocation of resources to align with the group’s organizational priorities.

In her role with the Commission, Sara will be working on a wide variety of projects, including strategic communications, working with external stakeholders to share and deepen our work in communities across Pennsylvania and cultivating and engaging business leaders and partners in regional strategies to increase access to high quality early learning programs.

Sara is a graduate of Susquehanna University where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Broadcasting and Walden University earning a Master of Science in Leadership. Sara is a resident of Selinsgrove, PA and a frequent guest performer of the national anthem at Major League Baseball games across the eastern United States.
